Savage Wolverine, First three issues reviewed bub

As of late, everyone's favorite furry canuck has received a tad bit too much time in the spotlight for my taste, being in every group of super dudes from Avengers to X-Force and on as many covers as Marvel can make variant covers of. The lone wolf, secretive "thing" that made Logan such a bad-ass has been completely tossed aside, the "man with no past" now has more back story than you can shake  Hugh Jackman at and about as many offspring as a Kardashian. Rightfully so, I was a bit cautious about picking up another one Wolvie' story....but this one said savage on it, in very manly font no less. Not to mention it is both drawn and written by my favorite comic book artist of all time Frank Cho.
Famous for his very voluptuously drawn women and brutally primitive cavemen , Savage Wolverine does not disappoint in these departments. The story details several spats between Wolverine, Shanna the She-Devil and several tribesmen of the Savage Land. The fights sprawl over both pages and are highly detailed and action-centric. Cho does an excellent job of illustrating movement and conveying where the next well placed stab or snikt-ing will land next. Reading these books reminded me of watching a Shaw Bros kung-fu flick, each movement complimented the next, moving fluidly across the pulpy pages. The character art is no slouch either, Shanna is very expressive,  Logan is down-right beastly, and the Savage Land folk are....savage. The scenery wasn't to terribly detailed but all is forgiven  with the way my dude Frank draws the ladies....
The first issue drops you into the Savage Land with Shanna escorting a team of S.H.I.E.L.D agents on a cartography mission. When the team spots a mysterious mountain on a remote island in the already remote Savage Land, needless to say shit begins to hit all kinds of fans. Wolverine finds himself dropped off on the same island ,against his will(?), he encounters the S.H.I.E.L.D  team and Shanna and they begin to beat, stab and kill there way off the FORBIDDEN ISLAND.
This is sounding a lot like Lost- --nay, the begining of a Scooby-Doo show.  I can appreciate a good set up as much as the next guy but with characters like these and a setting as intriguing as the Savage Land, I can do with getting balls deep into some action packed panels right away. The story is straight to ademantium tipped point and has no kind of sappy back story or character building  lady-writing that we have seen Wolverine get treated to lately. Among the brutality, Cho sprinkles bits of humor here and there with impeccable timing, delivering some belly laughs.
In the subsequent two issues, we see the relationship of Shanna and Wolverine building. Wolverine insist on protecting her all the while Shanna insist on carrying her own weight. Amadeus Cho is dropped in the mix somewhere to deliver some Deadpool-esque internal dialogue with his spiffy new super suit, Calvin. Halfway through the arc and this seems like its gonna be one of the more brutal and gore-ridden stories for Logan. Not the mention they are gonna drop the Hulk into the mix in the upcoming books and I'm always up to see those two get at each others throats.
Savage Wolverine should be on your pull-list if you want an action packed and well paced book, with a few good laughs all up in it.
